"I am living in my own corpse" - the experience of tuberculosis in poems by A B Šimić
The paper focuses on 7 poems by Šimić dealing with his experience of TBC. They are not confessions of a sick man but relevant works of art. In them different shades of a poetic self are uncovered, ranging from a helpless child to a ghostly creature in a secluded hospital ward. These poems are relevant to medical professionals for they may enable them to view disease in a wider context and to be open to many different ways in which the experience of illness can be expressed.
