Target Tracking in Radar Technology
Many everyday civilian and military functions would be impossible without radar technology. This paper describes elementary concepts of monostatic pulsed radar, since this radar is widely used and easily understood. We will focus on tracking type of radar, ”Enhanced Peregrine Coastal Surveillance Radar”, military MTI radar commonly used in Croatian Navy. The main issue is the complex radio wave propagation through atmosphere resulting in difficulties with target detection and tracking. Unwanted clutter echoes can be reduced using a number of Doppler filters followed by CFAR processing and adding one or more high-resolution clutter maps to suppress clutter residues. Some of the radar functions will be tested and compared in order to present the process of moving target detection and tracking in Peregrine radar.
