Probability density distribution of primary ionization calculated by means of an iterative deconvolution process

The probability density distribution of primary ionization in a proportional counter has been obtained by an iterative deconvolution process of the measured pulse height distribution using the single electron distribution. The Polya distribution function gave the best fit to measured single electron spectra and was used to describe the shape of single avalanches in gases. Results of distributions of primary ionization in methane and propane are presented.
