Detailed characterization of CO transition in (TMTTF)_2AsF_6 from transport measurements

We present the high-temperature (70 K < T < 300 K) resistivity anisotropy and Hall effect measurements of the quasi-one-dimensional (1D) organic conductor (TMTTF)_2AsF_6. The temperature variations of the resistivity are pronouncedly different for the three different directions, with metalliclike at high temperatures for the a axis only. At lower temperatures the resistivity data show a semiconducting behavior for all three directions down to T_CO=100 K, where a charge-ordering transition occurs. This is characterized by a steep increase of the conductivity gap in the resistivity measurements for all three directions, although somehow stronger for the two axis perpendicular to the chains. This may be the consequence of the uniform shift of ions yielding a macroscopic FE polarization as predicted in analysis of dielectric measurements. Also, the steep increase of the conductivity gap below T_CO in resistivity is accompanied by an abrupt change in the RH(T) behavior: at the charge-ordering transition T_CO=100 K, RH(T) switches sign, and rapidly increases with further temperature decrease, which is a strong indication that carriers condense into an insulating charge-ordered state.
