Synthesis of new Triguanide Derivatives
Synthesis of polyguanides is of considerable interest because of, inter alia, their outstanding basicity.[1, 2] Particullary interesting in this regard are branched polyguanides and guanidines possesing substituents capable of forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds.[2] Typical example is provided by N1, N2, N6, N7-tetraisopropyl-N4-dimethylamoniopropyl-triguanid-N4-ium sulphate (1), synthesis of which will be presented in this communication. 1 was obtained by one-pot synthesis starting from N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-guanidine and diisopropylcarbodiimide. The structure of the resulting triguanide was elucidated by X-ray analysis of the corresponding sulphate salt. [3] The effect of various substituents at the reactants and reaction temperature on the outcome of reaction will be discussed in detail. In addition, a brief overview of the effect of substituents on proton affinities, based on results of DFT (B3LYP/6-311+G(2d, p)//HF/6-31G**) calculations will be given.
