Development of processes for biopharmaceutical production
Industrial processes involving animal cells for the production of useful products like viral vaccines still seem to be uncommon. Although virus production in animal cells is an important part of industrial-scale production there are still demands for process development. Our goal was to apply new technologies for improvement of standard processes for biopharmaceutical production. We evaluated novel, disposable-bag bioreactor that uses wave action for mixing and transffering oxygen for BHK 21 C13 cell growth and Aujeszky’ s disease virus (ADV) production. Obtained results showed that this type of bioreactor showed higher AD virus titre and is suitable for production of other biopharmaceuticals. Using this novel technology, production time is significantly reduced lowering the costs of the whole process. Therefore, the advantages of this process could be objective of IP protection.
