Case study: Heavy Hailstorm on August 18th 1991
On the 18th of August 1991, during the early afternoon hours, a heavy hailstorm hit Northeastern Slovenia and Northwestern Croatia regions. It was caused by the penetration of cold air over the Alps. A stormy development of the tempestuous multicell cumulonimbus was accompanied by heavy showers of rain and hail and stormy wind, all of which resulted in considerable damages to field crops along the Cb trajectory passage. During the second half of the afternoon and early evening, stormy weather of a lower intensity hit other parts of Northern Croatia. This paper is an attempt of description of an extremely intensive hailstorm and its characteristics, also trying to show, in are rather simplified way, the connection between meteorological data and hail suppression activities, especially the applied seeding of meteorological reagent.
