Uloga wellnessa u suvremenom turizmu
In contemporary living and working conditions human health is more and more jeopardized by various illnesses that can be influenced by different means of prevention. Lately wellness has developed as a new way of carrying out various activities in one’ s free time and it is directed towards improving the person’ s psycho-physical capacities, health and satisfaction. Numerous are the wellness programmes that are conducted in wellness centres, in luxurious hotels and particularly in tourist health centres during vacations. This paper investigates and presents the role of wellness in health tourism. Wellness implies the whole concept of health, and it encompasses all areas of healthy activities, physical exercise, diet, relaxation and stress management in order to reach the feeling of comfort and satisfaction. Wellness programmes may be classified in three areas: - prevention of illnesses and health improvement - physical exercise and fitness - beauty programmes. The implementation of wellness programmes in tourism in developed European countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic etc. shows that wellness is to be considered as a new type and quality of the tourism supply, particularly in health tourism. Some indices confirm the hypothesis that a wellness-related supply is the generator of additional economic effects in tourism. It is for this reason that wellness is developing in the contemporary tourism supply in most European countries, and more recently also in Croatia.
