Influence of fuel-oil additives on maintenace costs reduction and flue gas emission

Numerous studies and experience cases have approved that the fuel-oil additives can efficiently help in combating problems related to boilers reliability, maintenace, operating efficiency and environment. The primary aim of this paper is to identify and to describe difficulties arising in oil-fired boilers, and to reveal possible effects of the additives, based on the experience and results of testing in various operating conditions. The problems are considered separately in three characteristic areas: in pre-combustion stage, in fire-side zone and environment. The possible effects of additives are described for each of these groups of problems, and modes to obtain optimum results are revealed. Methods and techniques for additive effects assessment are also reviewed for their testing in real operating conditions.
