The response of mammalian cells to a defect in ribosome biogenesis
To meet the increased demand for proteins during cellular adaptation the cell must increase translational capacity by up regulating ribosome biogenesis. This is the most energy consuming process in cell proliferation, and alterations in this process can lead to quantitative or qualitative defects in mRNA translation, which could have deleterious consequences on the cell.
