Objects in belief: a consistency problem
In first-order logic of belief we encounter the problem of the identity of objects through distinct beliefs. Some modal semantics addressing this problem are discussed (Rantala, Fitting, Ye, Aloni, etc.). A first-order non-standard semantics is proposed where classically inconsistent de re beliefs are allowed, the identity of objects of belief being preserved, and where intensional objects of belief are generated through the presentation of objects by individual constants. The splitting of a world into its different pictures for an agent is introduced and modelled by a special function on the set of worlds. An appropriate signed tableau system is proposed.
