Georg Friedrich Haendel - The Pathography On 320th Anniversary Of His Birth
Son of a surgeon and famous baroque composer GF Hanedel was a strong and dynamic personage. He was tall and corpulent, well know for his generosity, inclined to excessive food taking and drinking which made him suffer from gluttony and probably alcohol abuse. Facts about his many illnesses are controversial. He was struck with rheumatic disorder so went often to spa for rehabilitation. His recurrent palsies of right hand could be interpreted as cerebrovascular disease or radiculopathy or peripheral neuropathy. His visual impairment started in 1751 and can be explained by ischemic optic neuropathy or retinal artery occlusion. He was unsuccessfully operated several times by Chevalier Taylor. He had unstable states of his mood, but became also depressive, along with his health deterioration. Finally we also indicate possibility of alcoholic damage of nerves as possible explanation for both recurrent palsies of his right arm and optic nerve. Surprisingly all those illnesses did not have significant impact on master's work.
