Transportation system and sustainable development : the example of the Mediterranean region of Croatia

The paper provides some essential issues concerning interrelation of transport and sustainable development in Croatia with a special emphasis on the Mediterranean region. Some economic technological, safety and environmental problems of the transportation system are explained in terms of their effects on sustainable development. The needs, chalenges and possibilities of the transport system are examined within the national and international framework.
