ULTRASONIC WELDING - NEW METHOD IN SAILMAKING
Although contemporary racing sails are made of high-performance fibres, such that constitute the top of the technology in global material science, sail making itself is still limited to conventional sewing of individually cut parts of sails. Having in mind recent advances in the field of textile technology, primarily in joining the cut parts of textile fabrics, the authors have aimed the investigations described in this paper at employing one of the contemporary techniques of joining (ultrasound, thermal, high-frequency) in sail making.
