Prejudices on Contemporary and High-Tech Architecture

Contemporary architecture still rely upon spatial concepts of the Dom-ino skeleton by Le Corbusier, prototypes of Mies van der Rohe' s villas and also Alvar Alto' s shapes and structures ; it seems that these forms, along with the japanese tradition of housing, are adequate to the task of containing new functions, materials, technology and interior electronic and computer devices. Prejudices against digital and high-tech architecture come from the fact that this architecture deals with the lack of protectivness of architectural elements in a traditional way: people fear they would not feel protected enough in such architecture, and this is something even the theoreticians and critics are not immune of. They fear of this irrational transparency, lightness and liquidity/flow of materials, openness of home or building or even the public space. We must try to decode what is so inspiring to contemporary architects, because every final design has its hidden roots, and because metaphorical levels are very subtle incorporated in contemporary architecture. Recent architecture is somewhere between architecture, landscape and environmental sculpture ; &laquo ; ; ; contextual rationalism&raquo ; ; ; , combining construction/structure, sensitive urbanistic responses, or, structure and simplified form.
