Resonant Spectrum Analysis of Seismic and Wind Loading of Structure

In this paper the resonant spectra of wind and earthquake action obtained by a windows-wavelet transformation on the single degree of freedom system (SDOF) are shown. The earthquake load was taken from the literature, while the wind load was obtained from the measuring experiments. The analyses show that the averaging interval is extremely important for the wind loading of the structure. A good approach is usage of the averaging interval equal to the duration of the period T of the analysed system. The significant increase of the intensity of the constant component by de-creasing the period T of analysed system can be observed. The part of the fluctuating component presented as sinusoidal function of the duration of one wave is quantified. Its intensity is on an av-erage one half of the intensity of the constant component. The total action, presented by the ex-treme elastic force, is quantified by the dynamic factor of the elastic force in relation to the force magnitude of the constant component. The value of thus defined dynamic factor is between 2.74 up to 3.26, on an average 3.0. The resonant spectra of the earthquake action show that the intensity of the constant and the fluctuating component is approximately equal. The overall action of both components gives a reso-nant spectrum of acceleration response. The dynamic factor obtained as a ratio of the response and the stable component action, has the value from 3 to 8, most often between 4 and 6. The relation of the resonant spectrum and the classical acceleration spectrum for zero viscous damping shows that the ordinates of the classical spectrum are significantly higher, while for the period T from 0 to 2 seconds are about twice. The intensity of the waves with several wave lengths decreases inversely proportionate to the number of waves, i.e. duration time, for both actions. This fact shows that the resonant effect isn’ t characteristic of the analysed phenomenon.
