Factor structure of FF-NPQ applied on croatian sample.

The Five-Factor Nonverbal Personality Questionnaire (FF-NPQ, Paunonen et all, 2001) is an experimental, structured, nonverbal measure of personality traits defined within the Big-Five model of personality (Costa& McCrae, 1992). It consists of 60 items that lack verbal content (illustrations showing certain behavior), and the inventory is therefore useful for cross-cultural research. It would also be appropriate for within-culture assessment situations in which reading/language comprehension could present a problem. The goal of this study was to examine psychometric properties (factor structure and reliability) of this relatively new measure of personality in a group of Croatian female students (N=281). The results have confirmed the original five-factor structure: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience. Five factors taken together have explained 33.87% of total variance. Although this percentage is not very high, correlation of the items with five factors matched the expected structure, indicating that FF-NPQ measures dimensions of personality as intended. Furthermore, the internal-consistency reliability of all scales proved to be satisfactory. These results are comparable to findings of previous studies on psychometric characteristics of FF-NPQ. In conclusion, the limitations of this study are identified and usefulness of this nonverbal inventory of personality for the cross-cultural research is presented.
