Activity of the granulated biomass of the mixed microbial culture for highly efficient carbon and nitrogen removal in the process wastewaters

Present work describes the use of the selected granulated mixed microbial culture in simultaneous biodegradation, nitrification and denitrification of the simply and complexly structured ingredients with carbon and nitrogen from chemical, pharmaceutical and fermentation industries. The mixed microbial culture in the granulated form comprised the selected strains of autotrophic and heterotrophic microcolony-forming bacteria. The comparison is given between nitrification with pre-denitrification, and the sequencing batch reactor (SB-reactor). In addition to presenting chemical quality parameters of the untreated and treated wastewater, the work also shows the stability of the granules (microbiological quality) in the changed composition of wastewaters from various sources. Environmental parameters are shown that enable highly efficient wastewaters treatment with respect to their ingredients with carbon and nitrogen.
