The laryngeal mask airway A Prospective study in 1260 children
The application of laryngeal mask airway in 1260 children was studied over an 18 months period. The parameters studied were noninvasive blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oxymetry used in all children, 88% breathed spontaneously and 12% underwent intermitent positive pressure ventilation. The author suggest that the LMA is a good alternative to endotracheal intubation in children undergoing general anesthesia for surgical procedures, but it may not offer absolute protection against aspiration.
