Morfoloska svojstva Đakovackog lipicanca

Measurement of the physical development of Lippizaner offspring has a significant importance in determining the sexual maturity of the horse. The growth and developmental stages of the horse can be optimally influenced by the breeding with appropriate feeding and care of the animal. Data from the registry of the Dakovo horse farm include only animals with full pedigree that recorded the following phenotypic changes by generations. The morphological characteristics and physical measurements (withers, height, chest girth and cannon bone circumference) of adult mares, stallions and foals at age 6, 12, 24 and 36 months were statistically analysed. It was observed that male had a higher height at withers, both at foaling time and mature age, than female horses. The chest girth in males was larger at foaling time, while at mature age it was smaller than females. A larger chest girth in females at mature age was the consequence of gravidity of some females that were included in the research. The obtained values of the cannon bone circumference have no significant sex differences. The Dakovo horse farm has a significant place in team sport especially in two horse and four horse teams. The breeding aim is to raise quality animals for team sport and riding horse in both farm and private breeding. Stallions from Hungary, Romania, Austria and Slovenia were used to infuse new genetics in developing Lippizaner horses with larger frames and bone structures. Today, the Dakovo Lippizaner is considered one of the largest horse breed.
