Kubelka-Munk Parameters and Modulated Transfer Function of some Unprinted Substrates

Resolution and tone reproduction characteristics of all hardcopy images on paper are significantly influenced by the way light scatters in the paper. In this artical, scattering of light in chosen papers, were examined by Modulated Transfer Function (MTF) derived from Kubelka-Munk theory by the Oittinen-Engeldrum model. These results were compared with empirical modification of MTF model and with absorption and scattering coefficients. Measurements of reflectances were made using X-Rite Spectrophotometer. Kubelka-Munk equations were inverted to generate the corresponding values of absorption, K, and scattering, S, coefficients. The numerical results were calculated by Graphics Origin 6.0 Professional and MathCad 2002.
