Analysis of tram track noise and vibrations depending on rail fastenings
One of the primary objectives in planning tram tracks in urban zones is the reduction of noise and vibrations caused by the tram vehicles in motion. Noise and vibration are particularly emphasized at track intersections where a given number of track switches are integrated. At these locations, interruptions occur in the tracks, resulting in momentary impacts upon the passage of tram vehicle wheels. This paper presents the results of study of two types of tram constructions, with discrete support (standard type of tram track in Zagreb) and continuous rail support (suggested method of rail support). Several parameters were considered: acceleration, rail vibration and natural frequencies, vibrations of the track foundation and noise level. The substantially more positive results of the continuous rail support helped in making the decision to use this type of tram construction in the reconstruction of the intersection of Jurisiceva and Draskoviceva streets in Zagreb.
