Sociocultural Capital and Economic Development: The Case of Croatia
Political and economic actions do not take place in a socially atomized space where actors are replicas of the neoclassical Homo economicus, but rather in the a world of embedded rationality. Focusing on the process of transition, the paper offers an empirical sociocultural analysis aiming to test the hypothesis of cultural inertia, i.e. the impact of sociocultural legacy in Croatia. The results offer partial confirmation of our hypothesis, but also point out the importance of situational factors - such as the political distribution of the social costs of transition.
