The principles of logistics applied to seaports
The paper discusses the application of logistic principles to seaports. The very important role seaports play in the transportation of goods is stressed, which is especially evident in international trade. The existing competition between seaports is pointed out and their attempts at capturing as much cargo as possible by intensely focusing on market consumers. A special accent is placed on how circumstances have changed, such that, alongside the previously dominant functions of transport, industry and trade, modern ports, that is fourth generation ports, portray logistic and distribution functions all the more. Therefore, ports are not only centers of transport, but equaly prominent logistic and distribution centers, for which reason they are especially attractive to users. This increases transport, revenue and contributers to their development and significance.
