Pentadecapeptide BPC 157 has angiogenic property : An effect shared with sucralfate and H2-blockers
An angiogenetic properties of BPC 157 were investigated in comparsion with antiulcer drugs, sucralfate, cimetidine, famotidine and rantidine. In each rat two sterile sponges with the same quantities of pentadecapeptide BPC 157 and od reference agents (cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine, sucralfate, were implanted s/c in lumbar region. After seven days, the sponges were removed, fixed in formalin, and processed for histologic and histochemical evaluation and morphometry. Results: New-formed granulation tissue around the implanted sponge is regularly used as a valuable quantitative measure for host reaction on foreign body. Significant more granulation tissue was noted in the rats treated with the BPC in highest dose, an effect seen also in sucralfate treated groups. Unlike this, no difference in group treated with all three H2-blockers and control group could be seen. All of the substances used, showed significantly high values than control groups. Besides a well known effect of sucralfate H2-blockers cimetidine, famotidine and ranitidine have angiogenic properties. Of particular interest is the finding that novel pentadecapeptide BPC 157 has a markable angiogenic property as well.
