CONDITION BASED MACHINERY SURVEYS
Traditionally, ship machinery maintenance hast been performed on a hard-time or breakdown basis. Experience from other industrial sectors has shown that this is not necessarily the best strategy available. Condition based maintenance, when implemented provide a better financial return on investment and lower operational costs. We believe that condition monitoring is a promising approach to enhancing both machinery maintenance and class surveys. We recognise that there are both organisational and technical issues that need to be addressed to ensure success when implementing condition monitoring on board ships. A set of requirements are being finalised that we believe will assist ship operators in successfully utilising condition monitoring and condition based maintenance as part of their operating scheme.
