Ultimate bearing capacity of strip surface footing on layered rock mass

The ultimate bearing capacity of the footing, in layered and jointed rock mass, significantly depends on the characteristics and position of layers and joints. The paper analyzes this problem considering the influence of thicness, position and orientation of a layer woth a significant difference in characteristics (of deformation and shear strength) from the main rock mass. The influence of joints between a layer and mass, as a part of the analysis, is determined.
