Seroprevalence of Chlamydophila felis in cats with immunocompromised syndrome

Cats with immunocompromised syndrome ; which had been exposed to feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and/or feline leukemia virus (FeLV) were tested to present chlamydial antibodies. The results of serological testing to FIV and/or detection FeLV using commercial ELISA rapid tests (IDEXX, Westbrook, Maine, USA – Feline Leukemia Virus Antigen/Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Antibody Test Kit) were presented. Chlamydophila felis (Cp. felis) is considered as important agent in the etiology of infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract and eyes in cats. The results of serological testing to antibodies against Cp. felis in cats with immunofluorescence (Fuller laboratories, California USA Feline Chlamydia IgG IFA Antibody Kit) were also passed. Group of thirty cats with immunocompromised syndrome were tested. The seroprevalence to chlamydias was 16.7% (5/30), to FIV was 50.0% (15/30) and 53.3 % (16/30) of cats were positive to FeLV antigen. Fifteen (50.0%) cats were presented with clinical symptoms of upper respiratory tract ; seven (23.3%) of them were serologically positive to FIV, eight (26.7%) were positive to FeLV and three (10.0%) of them were serologically positive to Chlamydias and FIV or FeLV contemporarily.
