A study of Al-Zn alloys at elevated temperatures by X-ray diffraction
Four Al-xZn alloys (x = 8, 24, 40 and 48 at%) are studied from RT to 400 ^oC by X-ray powder diffraction. The structure changes proceeding during heating are studied. They are in line with the phase diagram. The most important result is that the lattice constant of matrix, a[alpha(M/P)], in contact with the various precipitates P occurring in this system, exhibits an unexpected behavior only in case of fully coherent precipitates, i.e. Gunier-Preston zones ; a[alpha(M/P)] depends on the zinc content of the alloy.
