Structured and Object-oriented methods in a complex IS project
Object-oriented and structured methods are not mutually exclusive, although each of them has their advantages when used in developing a specific type of information system. For that reason, some characteristics of real system and their ISs, that determine the choice of methods, are analysed in this paper. It has been concluded that for the development of complex ISs, especially those that integrate business and technological processes, a combined use of structured and object - oriented methods gives the best results. The way structural and object methods are integrated into a consistent methodology for the development of ISs is also shown in the paper. The results are illustrated with examples from a large - scale project, which was carried out by the authors.
