Stresses in Axial Loaded Cylinder with Unequal Diametrically Opposite Holes
The problem of the distribution of stresses in axial loaded cylinders with unequal holes has important technical application. In this work is analyzed a thin circular cylinder weakened by two diametrically opposite holes in form of triangle and five sided polygon with rounded corners, under axial compression. The stress concentration factors around the holes are defined by proposed analytical solution based on the application of complex variable functions and conformal mapping combined with the iteration method. Corresponding computer program for analysis was developed. The experimental results are obtained by photoelastic frozen stress method. On the basis of analytical and experimental solution the curves of stress concentration factor around the holes are comparatively drawn. The accuracy of proposed analytical solution was established to be very satisfying for engineering practice.
