Local Government and Development: What Works and What Does Not? Analysis, Policy Recommendations and Training Materials for Countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Lessons Learned in Poland, Croatia and Ukraine. The case of Croatia.
This study is an analysis of the case of Croatia within the international research project Local government and development-What works and what does not? Lessons learned in Poland, Croatia and Ukraine. The project is sponsored by the OSI Zug Foundation and performed under the supervision of Prof. Pawel Swianiewicz, EUROREG, Warsaw University. The Case of Croatia is one of three country studies elaborated to contribute to the final report on the project. It is assigned to local self-governments in Central and Eastern European countries, to consultants working with local self-governments, as well as to researchers whose focus of interest is regional and local economic development. The study on Case of Croatia is a result of a joint work on local development policy issues in Croatia undertaken by researchers from the Institute of Economics, Zagreb. The team closely collaborated with other partners in this international project since the very beginning of the project in March 2003. The workshop held in Zagreb on November 29, 2003 gathered all partners on the project where results of research work of three participating countries were presented and the final revision of national reports discussed.
