Acute microbial toxicity of selected pesticide in an aqueous solution
Acute microbial toxicity of pesticides chlorpropham, dichlorvos and dodine was measured in an aqueous solution. The inhibition of growth of six microorganisms (bacteria Pseudomonas cepacia 3015, Bacillus subtilis 3020, Bacillus sp. and Streptomyces rimosus R7 and fungi Aspergillus niger 405 and Rhizopus sp.) was determined after 60 and 120 min of contact with different concentrations of toxicants. Calculated IC-50 values reveal that dichlorvos, chlorpropham and dodine are likely to inhibit fungal microorganisms in soil and water at concentrations below 0.2 ppb, while the inhibition of bacterial growth occur at higher concnetrations that are not usual in the aquatic and soil environment.
