A beam model for the buckling analysis of curved beam-type structures considering curvature effects
A numerical approach dealing with the buckling of curved beam-type structures is presented. Having defined the equation of equilibrium of a buckled curved beam, potential energy due to radial stress is included in the derivation of virtual work equations. The finite element method is presented. Elastic and geometric stiffness matrices of the curved beam finite element, with two nodes placed at the end of the element, are derived by using the linearized incremental equilibrium equations. The stability problem is solved as an eigenvalue problem.
