On shell finite elements with an additional drilling degree of freedom

Inclusion of an additional rotational degree of freedom to the plane stress analysis is presented. According to this formulation, an isoparametric C0 finite shell element with six degrees of freedom per node is derived. The element exhibits excellent accuracy characteristics. In combination with finite beam element, very efficient numerical model for analysis of complex structures consisting of shells, beams and columns is developed.
