Integrated Coverage of Radiactive and Hazardous Issues in Developing Countries
The perception of the sustainable development concept is different in countries with different levels of development. Compared with some other more pressing needs of developing countries, the priority given to environmental problems is often not very high. Accordingly, the rether limited resources of developing countries, which are allocated for resolving environmental problems, should be used in the most pragmatic way.The setting up and the operation of two separate national systems for management of Radioactive and Hazardous Waste is not the best example to be followed by developing countries. The concept of joined and integrated management of both wastes seems much more appropriate. Lessons learned by establishing and developing the joint and integrated concept as well as experience gained by implementing such comcept for seven years will be presented.
