Concrete beams with FRP reinforcement – Experimental research
The most common material in the construction of buildings is a concrete reinforced with steel reinforcement. If reinforced concrete element is placed in aggressive environment, its deterioration due to corrosion of steel reinforcement will start soon. In the last few decades a lot of attention is devoted to fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) as a replacement for steel reinforcement. This material has a great resistance to corrosion. This paper presents experimental research which was conducted at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb. Main subject of this research was determination of concrete beams deflection. Beams were reinforced with FRP and with steel bars. Two types of FRP reinforcement were used: GFRP and CFRP bars. In order to compare the results of research, beams reinforced with steel bars were tested as well.
