Crosslinking cotton with citric acid and organophosphorus agent for the purpose of flame retardant finishing
The combination of organophosphorus flame retardant agent and citric acid was used as a durable FR and Durable Press finishing system for cotton fabrics. Melamine-formaldehyde which contributes to the emission of significant levels of ecologically unfriendly formaldehyde was replaces with CA in study. The flammability of textiles was tested by parameters of flame spread properties of vertically oriented specimens. Flammability parameters were investigated on the cotton fabric treated with conventional MF binder and ecologically acceptable CA. In the presence of organophosphorus compounds CA esterifies the organophosphorus compound, thus functions as a binder between cellulose and ogranophosphorus compound imprroving the system durability to laundreing
