On Tesla from the Central Library of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb

The book has been invented in order to help people communicate through time and space. The libraries are, according to this, the outcome of communication, transmission, and preservation. The book, although material, in fact is of the immaterial origin. The book is not possessed by its owner, but by the one who has gained its spirit. This paper deals with the value of books for the generations to come. A part of the holdings of the Central Library of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, will be described in the paper. The purpose of the paper is also to stress the importance of applied, technical and biomedical sciences, as well as of arts and humanities, and their unbreakable linkage. The development of science paved the way to the promotion of the librarianship, and the libraries strive today to impress their users by rapid flow of information, permitted by online catalogues and electronic forms of documents. The paper is as well dedicated to our great man Nikola Tesla, on the occasion of his 150 birthday anniversary.
