New Croatian Standards for Wind Loads
Investigations on wind engineering carried out during recent years in Croatia have provided databases for the development of the National Application Documents (NAD) for wind action upon structures - wind load according to the Eurocode (EC1) recommendations. The results of those investigations have shown that the wind parameters (mean/average velocity, roughness coefficient cr(z), terrain category, topography coefficeint ct(z) and the coeffcient of wind exposure ce(z) considerably differ compared with coefficents proposed/given by EC1 for the coastal region of Croatia. This fact has been confirmed by investigations at the Dubrovnik and Split locations where is evident that values ce(z) depending upon the height z above the soil for specific terrain categories (Dubrovnik III, Split II) are more in accordance with the values proposed by NAD and that they significanlty deviate from the values recommened by EC1. The computation of the reliability index β for the steel structure of the column of mobile communication, 40 m high has also pointed to the necessity of developing new Croatian standards for wind loads.
