Properties of heat treated green petroleum coke

The petroleum coke are derived by coking process from the residue of petroleum refining. This coke is called „ green“ because it still contain 5 to 15% volatile matter. Green coke volatile matter, moisture, ash, sulphur and chemical (metals and nonmetals) analysis provide useful information about the coking process. In addition, green coke volatility levels can be qualitatively related to calcined coke quality ; that is, the lower the green coke volatile level, the more anisotropic the coke. Investigation were performed on laboratory calcined green coke industry obtained from oil domestic origin. The heat treatment at the same temperature (1250°C) but at the different time (1, 5 and 10 hours) and at the different heating rate (60°C/ min and 10°C/ min) were performed. Content of moisture, volatile matter, ash, sulphur and metals (Ca, Fe, Ni and V) were examined. The results are shown the less effect of the time and the heatig rate on the investigated properties than on the chemical compounds type of metals and sulphur in coke.
