Time-Domain Response Simulation of Multiconductor Transmission Lines Excited by an Incident Electromagnetic Field

This paper describes an efficient way of modelling lossy multiconductor transmission lines (MTL) excited by incident field with the assumption of transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode of propagation. Near-end and far-end voltages and currents, induced by the field excitation, are calculated. Multiconductor transmission lines are modelled using algorithm based on delay extraction which combines method of characteristics (MoC) for modelling lossless part, and pure resistive network for modelling lossy part of MTL subnetworks, both of which ensure macromodel passivity. Time-domain responses of complete MTL structure are obtained by using MATLAB implementation of the model and by using commercial 3-D electromagnetic simulator. The obtained results shows that MATLAB implementation provides fast calculation and can give reasonably accurate results.
