Application of Advanced Engineering Methods in Production Processes

Advanced engineering numerical methods, such as Finite Element Method (FEM) or Finite Diference Method (FDM), are being used in mechanical engineering mostly for product development but also more and more in productione preocesses. The paper presents 3 cases of FEM application in production process. First case describes the determination of neccessary forced displecement of gas turbine exhaust casing split flange, being deformed by welding, in order to achieve the permissible dimension tolernaces. Result is a diagram showing residual split flange deformation as a function of forced displacement applied. Second case presents the FEM application by selecting the kind of heat protection from buckling deformation in operation for the gas turbine combustor inner liner. Analysis of corrugated and coating technology comprises the residual deformation after application of both technologies. Third case shows the determination of maximum revolution cycles of the clamping device for large and heavy pieces during submerged arc welding (SAW) as a function of a slope angle. Analysis for the case gearbox housing 210 kN has shown the accordant maximum allowable revolution cycles and a range of slope angle.
