Is there any relationship between gender and frequency of omitted data in ambulatory blood pressure monitoring database?
The aim of this study was to compare gender-based differences in frequency of omitted data during 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) examination. We evaluated data from 260 consecutive patients referred to ABPM examination (35% men ; 74% out-patients). Women were older than men (59.3± ; 10.7 vs. 53.4± ; 12.2 ; p<0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in the mean 24-hour, day or night values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP), frequency and causes of omitted data between our two groups of patients. Valid BP measurements (>70% of used readings) were presented in 87% of all patients (89% men vs. 86% women ; p=0.646). 19% of all patients had no omitted readings at all (15% men vs. 21% women ; p=0.293). In a large sample of our patients we found that both genders had comparable frequencies of omitted data in our ABPM database. We need to pre-program our monitors to record BP more frequently during the whole period to improve the efficiency of ABPM examination.
