Use of Cardiovascular Medications at Discharge in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction.
The present study was designed to compare the use of cardiovascular medications (CM) at the time of discharge in patients (pts) treated for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The database was made at the Department of Internal Medicine, General Hospital, Bjelovar, Croatia and the period between September 1996 and January 2001 was analyzed. In all survived pts gender, use of aspirin, beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and statins at the time of discharge were studied. There was no significant difference in the use of CM at discharge between men and women with AMI. Analysis of current practice patterns for the use of beta-blockers and statins, although proven therapy for the secondary prevention of AMI, reveals that a significant proportion of pts did not receive this treatment at the time of discharge.
