Application of Hybrid SD-UTD Method in the Analysis of Singly and Doubly Curved Convex Arrays
This paper presents a hybrid spectral domain – UTD method (UTD – Uniform Theory of Diffraction) and its application to the analysis of both singly and doubly curved convex antennas. The idea is to accelerate and expand the application of the spectral domain method using UTD method. Spectral domain method is a rigorous approach applicable to various multilayered canonical structures, but electrically large and arbitrary convex surfaces represent a serious limitation to its use. By implementing UTD method in specific parts of the spectral domain algorithm, a significant acceleration is achieved when analyzing electrically large antenna arrays. Furthermore the possibility to analyze a wide range of multilayered convex structures is also achieved, which would be very difficult using only UTD method. Hence, using the developed method it is possible to analyze large multilayered conformal antennas with high accuracy and speed.
