Leachates Disinfection at Jakuševec Waste Dump
In the present study the effect of oxidising agents was investigated in the disinfection process of the leachates from Jakuševec landfill. In the in vitro experiments, using raw leachates mixture with the disinfectant sodium dichloroisocyanurate 400 ppm and hydrogen peroxide 1500 ppm and time of action of 1 hour, the results illustrated an improvement of organoleptic properties, color, turbidity and odour, the oxidation of organic matter across reduction of BOD5 and ammonium content as well as the significantly decrease of mesophilic bacteria and coliform bacteria with both disinfectants. Regarding residual byproducts and environmental acceptability, hydrogen peroxide would have advantage among disinfectants.
