Electrochemical behaviour of aluminium based alloys in presence of chloride ions
The corrosion behaviour of aluminium, Al-Mg-Si and Al-Zn-Mg alloys was investigatedin 0.5 M NaCl solution (pH = 1.3), with and without addition of triethnolamine (TEA), by means of potentiodynamic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Corrosion resistance was found to folow the sequence Al-Mg-Si > Al > Al-Zn-Mg. It has been demostrated that in all cases the addition of inhibitor induces a decrease in cathodic current without affecting the anodic behaviour. The results show that the EIS technique can successfully be applied to the determination of corrosion resistance in systems where the corrosion kinetics are not simple.
