Meeting report of the iological Psychiatry – Second International Congress: Santiago, Chile,
The overall objective of this meeting was to gather psychiatrists from South America to exchange ideas, establish treatment options, and organize psychiatry in South America. The congress was focused on treatment strategies for psychiatric disorders, and the main goal was to provide insight into molecular genetic and functional imaging research in psychiatry. The main themes were: endophenotypes, molecular genetics, pharmacogenetics, functional imaging, early detection and treatment options in psychiatric disorders, vulnerability and resilience factors in psychiatric disorders, genetic and environmental factors in psychiatric disorders, rating scales in mental health, ethics in psychiatry, and immunological and neuroendocrine mechanisms in pathogenesis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The meeting was chaired by Siegfried Kasper (World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry and Medizinische Universitat Wien, Austria) and was attended by more than 2200 delegates. The congress consisted of an opening lecture, four plenary lectures, 11 basic symposia, 18 clinical symposia, 19 interface symposia, 21 free communications, five debates, six workshops, three guided poster tours, and eight satellite symposia. Guided poster tours were organized each day where presenting authors had time to describe their data and discuss their research with the audience.
