Sociomedical parameters of the benefit from CV disease prevention
Cerebrovascular diseases with their large-scale occurrence and consequences upon the individual and society are a signi-ficant socio-economic problem. The frequent and severe disability consequential to CV disease entails many problems in per-sonal, professional and family life. Data collected at the Institute of Public Health of the Osijek and Baranya County- show that in 1993, 486 patients were treated at the Osijek University Hospital for CV diseases. The cost of treatment per patient per day was 513, 56 kunas. The mean hospitalizlation was 18, 20 days, with a cost of 9, 346.79 kunas. In 1994 646 patients were treated for CV disease, at a cost of 549, 59 kuna ; per patient per day. In 1995, 580 patients were treated for CV disease, at a cost of 557.53 kunas per patient/day. The mean hospitalisation was 21, 23 days, with a cost of 11, 886.53 kunas. The treatment of patients with CV disease is expensive, both in Croatia and elsewhere. In conditions of low resources allocated for inpatient treatment, preventive measures are of utmost importance.
